Qualifications:
Post Graduate Diploma in Arbitration, Post Graduate Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration, Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, Fellow of the Faculty of Building, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and Member of the Society of Expert Witnesses. Chartered Arbitrator and Association of Independant Construction Adjudicators listed Party Representatives.
Career History:
John Daly started work in the Construction Industry in 1973 since which time he has gained experience in most areas of building, both new build and refurbishment, civil and water engineering, heavy concrete structures, runways, roads, rail, bridges, river and marine works. He also has experience in PFI, facilities management and on large international projects.
John did his initial professional training first with a PQS practice and then a local authority, worked for two major contractors, operated as a sole practitioner for 15 years, then directly for another major contractor and finally for a specialist construction law firm for 3 years prior to forming his own company.
He also carried out various project management duties on certain schemes and attended a project management course at Oxford Brooked University in 1994.
For over 20 years John has specialised for the client and contracting organisations that employed him or his services, in the preparation or defence of claims, the management of contractual and commercial difficulties, and the resolution of disputes preferably by negotiation. Where this was not possible, litigation, arbitration, mediation and more recently adjudication were utilised.
Expert services were also provided in both arbitration and litigation from time to time.
Current Profile:
He has represented parties since 1989, in over 100 different cases that involved dispute resolution processes, for both domestic and international construction projects.
John now undertakes the preparation and defence of claims, gives advice on construction contracts and acts as a representative in Adjudication, Arbitration, Litigation and Mediation. He also provides Expert services in matters of quantum for both domestic and international disputes, for Arbitration, Litigation and Mediation. He also provides technical advice and support to Adjudicators where appropriate.
He also has particular recent experience in major civil engineering projects and those with a high civil engineering content, became a Chartered Arbitrator in 2005.
Seminars and Lectures:
John currently provides seminars, lectures and conducts workshops for Contract and Legal matters, and lectures at the Faculty of the Built Environment, University of Central England, Birmingham. John regularly hosts "Black Pudding Roadshows", a popular breakfast event where external speakers discuss topics such as Arbitration, Adjudication, Mediation, Risk Management, and New Contracts.
